Client.

Jeremy Leech is second-generation antique jewelry, diamonds, and colored stones dealer. Graduating Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Jeremy has an affinity for all things relating to precious metals and gemstones and knows the market better than most.

Jeremy has traveled the world searching, buying, and selling fine jewelry & gems. These experiences have played a key role in his knowledge and passion for the industry.

Interviews.

3 Interviews| 3 Males | Age 33-63| Work daily in wholesale of gemstones and precious metals.

Jeremy approached me with his idea to sell gold on a subscription-based model. I spent time with him and his colleagues, learning about people who buy gold and gaining deeper insight into this audience.

Framework.

We collaborated on a Vision, Mission, and Strategy for the company, which gave structure for the design, copy, visuals, and customer experience.

Gold grain.

Grain, also known as “shot” is gold in the form of small pellets.

“Grain is beneficial to all collectors because it is the only way to buy tangible gold in small increments.

Purchasing Exploration.

Buying by dollar amount: Example: the buyer wants $100.00 worth of gold. The amount of gold would change based on market change. The buyer would be responsible for understanding that their gold allotment would change each month.

Buying by weight: Example, the buyer wants 1 gram of gold each month. The buyer would receive the same allotment of gold, but the monthly price would fluctuate based on the market.

Usability Test, Purchasing Exploration.

I built two functional interactive prototypes for A/B testing. 10 candidates were selected for trial, observation, and understanding.

Flexible price, difference in weight.

Price changes, consistent weight.

The buyer in both cases would be responsible for following the market trends. Both options proved effective, but the best method was to sell gold by weight. Why?
